Challenge

Fragmented systems limit situational awareness, leaving officers and communities exposed.

At Fjord/Accenture Song, I faced the ambitious task of transforming policing services through technology. There was a critical gap in record sharing across policing jurisdictions, creating a significant blind spot in public safety efforts. Also advanced tools like facial recognition and gait identification systems were in place but operated in silos. This fragmentation hindered the efficient and effective use of available resources and technology in critical policing activities. The challenge lay in creating a pilot system that could seamlessly integrate with existing police applications and deliver real-time insights and operational improvements.

Approach

Integrated Smarter Policing Proof-of-Concept (POC)

This project aimed to create a demonstration model (proof-of-concept) for smarter policing. This relied on integrating several key tech. For example, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and an upgraded Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. The overall goal was to empower officers with better tools and information for enhanced public safety.

My work involved:

  • Prototyping cutting-edge solutions, like facial recognition for real-time suspect identification, to streamline officer workflows
  • Spearheading the NLP component, crafting branching decision-trees for an AI chatbot to deliver real-time insights such as nearby evidence
  • Establishing a rapid research approach with clear feedback loops to seamlessly test emerging AI and IoT concepts and prototypes
  • Partnering with software engineers, data analysts, and policing experts to identify and address critical gaps in the PoC, to enhance its feasibility and compliance with regulations.
  • Co-developing compelling pitch decks and a short film showcasing real-life PoC applications on the field, for wider stakeholder buy-in
